Wrightsville Avenue, Wilmington

In this project we were tasked with repairing the front porch.

One night, a drunk driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the front of a home along Wrightsville Avenue in Wilmington, NC.

We were asked to repair the porch and fix any structural issues that may have occurred from the crash. This required us to stabilize the porch roof, remove everything damaged & unuseable, and rebuilding the front of this home.

As you can see from the photos below, the car hit the house on the left side shifting everything towards the right.

The porch roof had been temporarily braced to prevent it from collapsing, but we needed to stabilize that before beginning the process of removing the damaged porch.

We removed as much as we could before constructing much larger bracing and removing the original braces. We had to do this to give ourselves more room to work. Plus the old bracing was utilizing some of the to damaged block wall that needed to be removed.

Once all of the damaged framing and block were removed we could locate and pour the footings for the three posts that held up the porch roof. After the footings were poured and cured, we could install the posts that hold up the roof of the porch.

We also added a few footings under the front of the house to strengthen the front band and level out the front of the home.

Once the foundational portions were completed we could begin framing the deck.

After the deck is framed, it’s time to install the decking. We ran the decking long during the install in order to cut it to length after it’s installed. This way we get a nice, straight line and a clean look.
